This ScreenSkills accredited course is the ideal first step to your media career. You will develop the practical skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the media industries as part of the next creative generation. The media industry is changing faster than ever before, and this course focuses on preparing you for a modern media workplace. It is the ideal starting point if you want a career in video production, broadcasting, editing and post-production work, sound design or radio. Successful completion of this course will ensure you are multi-talented and highly employable.
You will learn about the various job roles in the creative media sector and gain practical, hands-on experience, working in a range of disciplines. The content of the course was developed with employers so you can be assured that it will equip you with the skills and knowledge that employers are looking for and that it will help you stand out from the competition.
You will be taught by lecturers with extensive experience in the industry, and they will fully support you in developing confidence, interpersonal skills, and good working practices, all of which will improve your employability. You will develop your technical skills working in our specialist media rooms, professionally equipped printing and photography workshops, and computer suites. As part of our collaborative community, you will work closely with acting, dance and music students to execute powerful and engaging pieces of work. You’ll gain valuable experience working on Weston Waves, our independent student radio station. You’ll become part of our Creative Arts Career Excellence Hub, which is endorsed by leading industry partners, who are actively involved throughout your whole training programme. This provides unrivalled access to potential employers and the opportunity to develop your creative network. You will benefit from work experience opportunities, guest lectures from industry professionals, and international trips to inspire your work.
As part of this study programme, you will develop your maths and English skills, and attend tutorials and Individual Development (ID). You will also complete an extended industry placement. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.

ASSESSMENT METHOD
You will be assessed through assignments, investigations, and practical work. As part of this programme, you will be required to gain a minimum of five days’ work experience within the media industry to enhance your learning experience.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
You could increase your skills by progressing to any of the Level 3 creative courses at Creative Arts Weston.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9-2 with at least two at grade 4, or a qualifying level 1 qualification.
