YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE
Weston College can provide work experience opportunities for the secondary schools in Weston to provide them with a taste of the working world.
A work placement with us will:
- Provide you with real experience of the working world
- Help you clarify your career goals and aspirations
- Improve your employability skills

PLEASE NOTE
- Due to limited capacities, we can currently only offer this to the main schools within Weston.
- All placements are offered in line with health and safety guidelines.
- We work alongside the schools to accommodate their students during their specific weeks of work experience.
Construction and Motor Vehicle
Spend the week working across our Construction and Automotive Careers Hubs. You will work alongside the technical staff across Brickwork, Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Civil Engineering and Motor Vehicle to assist with all the duties associated with running a busy workshop in those areas.
Duties could include:
- Creating practical demonstration pieces for lecturers
- Recycling students’ assessed work
- Repairing and maintaining hand tools
- Stock checking construction materials
- Contributing to the décor and repair of the workshop environments and replenishing personal protective equipment

Music
Spend the week working with our Music technicians at the Loxton campus to assist with all the duties associated with running busy studios in our Creative Arts Careers Excellence Hub.
Duties could include:
- Practical jobs such as getting classrooms ready and preparing for shows and exhibitions
- Help with general admin in the technician’s office
- Supporting with set up of studio equipment and bookings
- Supporting with the general upkeep and maintenance of equipment
Performing & Production Arts
Spend your week shadowing tutors and technicians in the Performing and Production Arts department of our Creative Arts Careers Excellence Hub.
Duties could include:
- Depending on the dates of your placement, you could be helping to prep for the next upcoming project or show, either a musical or a drama piece.
- Get involved both on stage and behind the scenes
- The general running of the day to day departmental activities down our famous Performing Arts wing.
- Assisting in the delivery of practical workshops
Hospitality and Catering
Spend your week working within each aspect of our Hospitality and Catering Careers Excellence Hub and gain insight into the industry.
Practical duties could include:
- Getting kitchens and service ready and preparing for service
- Help with general admin in the technician’s office
- Assisting in the running of our Grove Training Kitchen and Restaurant
Hair and Beauty
Spend your week working within our busy Hair & Beauty Centre, home to our Hair & Beauty Careers Excellence Hub and gain insight into the industry.
Practical duties could include:
- Getting salons and service ready and preparing for service
- Help with general admin in the technician’s office
- Working on the reception area welcoming and serving customers
- You will learn about the Hair and Beauty career options and the industry standards.
