Installation/Maintenance Electrician, Advanced Apprenticeship
What will I do on this course?
You’ll be employed by an electrical contractor and work alongside an experienced tradesperson to develop and practise your new skills. You will attend College for one day a week to learn the technical side of your trade.
This apprenticeship, which includes a Level 3 electrotechnical qualification, will train you to use a range of electrical installation components. You’ll cover a range of topics, including environmental technologies; the principles of electrical science; fault diagnosis and rectification; inspection, testing and commissioning; and electrical system design. We’ll also work with you to develop your English and maths skills to the required level for the industry.
How will I be assessed?
You will complete assignments, produce a portfolio of evidence and take an end-point assessment. This is a robust, timed practical and theory assessment in sections. You will be required to perform a set of common tasks and procedures that a full scope electrical operative might face when working in commercial or industrial premises or dwellings.

This course could lead to a number of roles in electrical installation. Or you could enhance your skills by applying to join the HNC in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) at University Centre Weston.
Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English and maths, or a Level 2 course. You’ll also need to be in relevant employment, but we can help you find this.
