Hair and Media Make-up, VRQ Diploma

What will I do on this course?

This Level 2 hair and make-up course will teach you how to apply make-up and style hair for fashion, beauty and editorial images.

You’ll develop knowledge and practical skills by studying a range of topics including the art of photographic make-up, creating an image based on a theme, and health and safety practices.

You’ll have the choice of studying between a range of areas, which include skin tanning, creative themed face painting, nail and body art design, client consultation for hair services, colouring and lightening hair, perming techniques, cutting women’s hair, plaiting and twisting hair.

You’ll also get to work in the College’s real-life commercial salon and to attend work placements throughout the year. Tutorial support, personal and social development, and English and maths skills are also important aspects of the course.

How will I be assessed?

You’ll be assessed through online tests, practical work, assignments and projects. You’ll have an online gradebook that you will keep up-to-date and will manage targets throughout the year.

What could I do after this course?

You could get a job in a salon or become self-employed. Or you could increase your skills at Weston College with a Level 3 course in barbering or hairdressing.


Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs grade at 2/E or above (including English or maths at grade 4/C or above), or a related Level 1 qualification.
