General Construction Skills, City & Guilds

What will I do on this course?

This Level 1 construction course gives you the opportunity to try out a variety of construction trades and learn general skills to find out which trade you'd like to specialise in for your future career. You’ll learn about the construction industry and develop basic skills in bricklaying, carpentry, tiling, paving, plastering, plumbing, and painting and decorating.

This course is supplemented with tutorial support, employability development and study skills. We will also work with you to develop your English and maths skills to the level that employers in the construction industry look for.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through practical tests, workbooks, project work, a portfolio of your work including photographs, and an end of year test.

What could I do after this course?

You could get a job in the construction industry in a junior role, or unlock higher-paying jobs by increasing your skills with a Level 2 apprenticeship or a qualification in brickwork, carpentry or painting and decorating.
