What will I do on this course?
You’ll learn about Swedish massage, Indian head massage, and electrical therapy as well as developing your knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology, and health and safety.
You’ll also learn about client care and consultation, the history and origins of massage therapies, and promoting and selling your products and services. You will further develop your knowledge and apply the skills you have learned through working in a real-life commercial salon and attending work placements throughout the year.
As part of this study programme you will develop your maths and English skills, attend tutorials and Individual Development (ID) or Future Academy. You will also complete a work placement or extended industry placement. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.
How will I be assessed?
You’ll be assessed through online tests, practical work, assignments and projects. You’ll have an online gradebook that you will keep up-to-date and manage targets that your tutor sets you throughout the year. You’ll be tested on a termly basis while being monitored by a local employer with external quality assurance. There are three written exams on this programme.
What could I do after this course?
You could become a massage therapist in a range of settings including salons, spas, cruise liners and photography studios. You’ll be eligible to join the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology or the Federation of Holistic Therapists. You could further your skills with a management qualification or a foundation degree in hair and beauty.
A Level 2 in beauty therapy or other relevant qualification is desirable. You must also show commitment to study, a mature and professional attitude and a passion for working with clients.
