What will I do on this course?
This full-time technical qualification covers all the elements you’ll need to work as beauty therapist and is based on national occupational standards.
You’ll study units on:
- Health, safety and hygiene
- Consultation techniques and client care
- Manicure treatments
- Pedicure treatments
- Waxing services
- Facial treatments
- Skin type analysis
- Eyebrow shaping services
- Eyelash and eyebrow tinting services
- Make-up applications
- Anatomy and physiology for beauty therapists.
You’ll develop knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, and health and safety, as well as the skills needed to consult with clients whilst providing a range of beauty treatments. These include facial treatments, skin analysis, manicure, pedicure, waxing, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, and make-up applications.
You’ll also build communication and customer service skills, an awareness of environmental sustainability and commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Your problem solving, teamwork and research skills will also be developed.
As part of this study programme you will develop your maths and English skills, attend tutorials and Individual Development or Future Academy. You’ll also complete a work placement or extended industry placement. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.
How will I be assessed?
You’ll be assessed through online tests, practical work, assignments and projects. You’ll have an online gradebook that you will keep up-to-date and manage targets that your tutor sets you throughout the year.
What could I do after this course?
As a beauty therapist, you could work in a variety of contexts, which include:
- Commercial salons
- Destination and day spas
- Independent, self-employed, mobile and home-based settings
- Care homes.
You’ll also be eligible to become members of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) or Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).
Whilst the primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare you for employment, you may choose to develop your knowledge and skills further by completing a specialist Level 3 qualification in one or more of the following areas:
- Beauty therapy
- Holistic therapies
- Sports therapy.
You’ll need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9-2, with at least two at grade 4, or a qualifying Level 1 qualification.
