What will I do on this course?

This course will develop the knowledge and skills you need to work with children and young people.

It’s a great stepping stone to a higher level. It’s designed for people with little or no experience of working with children, and will give you the skills you need to progress to the next level course.

Topics you’ll study include:

  • Child and young person development
  • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
  • Supporting children and young people's positive behaviour
  • Understanding partnership working in services for children and young people
  • Children and young people's health and safety
  • Contribute to the support of positive environments for children and young people
  • Partnership working in services for children and young people.

You’ll also be required to attend a work placement for eight hours a week during term time, but we can help you find this.

Every member of the Early Years team at Weston College is a subject specialist and has managed an early years setting. We also have excellent links with employers, who help us to deliver best practice.

You will also benefit from learning at one of the top-performing colleges in the country with a group of like-minded people.

How will I be assessed?

You’ll be assessed through a portfolio of evidence and observation of your practical skills in the setting.

What can I do after this course?

Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress to our Level 3 Diploma.
