Teaching Assistant: Supporting Teaching and Learning, Advanced Apprenticeship
What will I do on this course?
This Level 3 teaching assistant apprenticeship is about learning on the job and getting paid, while you get qualified.
You’ll learn from a qualified teacher and mentor in school and come to College for one day a week to learn the technical aspects of the job.
You’ll cover topics including managing pupil behaviour; establishing and maintaining relationships with individual pupils and groups; supporting pupils during learning activities; and reviewing and developing your own professional practice. You’ll also complete a Level 3 QCF Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools.
How will I be assessed?
We’ll assess your practical skills and observe you at work. You’ll also produce written assignments to show your knowledge.
What could I do after this course?
You will be able to apply for teaching assistant and learning support assistant roles in schools. You could also progress to a degree in Early Childhood Studies at University Centre Weston, gain HLTA status, or apply for specialist qualifications in speech therapy or working with children with learning difficulties and disabilities.
You’ll need an NCFE Level 2 teaching assistant qualification, plus English and maths GCSEs at grade 4 or above. You will also need to be in relevant employment for up to four days a week, but we can help you find this. On enrolment your employer will require you to undertake a DBS check.
