What will I do on this course?
On this course, you’ll develop your creativity and learn about cutting and styling men’s hair and beards. It’s appropriate whether you aim to be employed or self-employed.
At Weston College, you will benefit from working in a commercial environment, and from support outside the classroom.
The course covers:
- Working in the industry
- Shampoo and conditioning
- Cutting men's hair
- Cutting facial hair
- Styling men's hair.
The qualification is based on the barbering National Occupational Standards (NOS) and recognised by the British Barbering Association and the Hairdressing Council.
What could I do after this course?
You could progress to a Level 3 course, apprenticeship or full-time work. You’ll also be eligible to become a Graduate State Registered Barber (SRB) with The Hairdressing Council.
You could work as a men's hairdresser or barber exist in a variety of contexts, including:
- Commercial barbershops or salons
- Independent, self-employed, mobile or home-based settings
- Product manufacturing and training
- Television, film, theatre and media
- Armed services
- HM prison service
- Cruise liners.
Four GCSEs at grade 3/D and above, plus English or maths at grade 4/C and above; or a previous hairdressing qualification.
