Laboratory Technician, Advanced Apprenticeship
What will I do on this course?
This apprenticeship covers a broad range of occupational roles, from supporting scientists and engineers in research and development work, to providing quality assurance or analytical science services. You will also be given the opportunity to learn functional skills (such as maths and English) if required.
How will I be assessed?
Your practical skills will be assessed. Tutors will also visit you in your workplace to review your progress and make sure you are on target to get your qualifications. The end-point assessment will include workplace observation and discussion with the registered assessor. You will also be required to undertake a vocational competence discussion and complete a written situational analysis exercise.
What could I do after this course?
After this apprenticeship, you can progress to a higher apprenticeship qualification or higher education, including the degree in Biological Laboratory Sciences at University Centre Weston. You’ll be able to work in a variety of settings – from health care and pharmaceuticals to universities – performing the practical, hands-on work required by laboratories.
You will need to be in relevant employment, but we can support you to find this. You will also need five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English and maths, or have successfully completed a Level 2 course.
