Law and Legal Skills, Technical Diploma
The CILEx Level 3 Diploma in Law & Legal Services qualification is perfect for people aged 16-19 who are looking to work in the legal sector.
This qualification will enable you to gain an understanding of law and develop the practical skills required to become a Legal Assistant/Paralegal. Legal Assistants/Paralegals work under the supervision of solicitors and provide support services such as drafting legal documents, performing legal research and legal problem solving.
Essential skills for a legal assistant include legal research and legal drafting. Legal practice skills are incorporated into this qualification and the synoptic end point test will ensure that these skills can be put into practice using the necessary underpinning legal knowledge.
The course includes placements with local firms, providing you the opportunity to observe these skills and even put them into practice.
What will I do on this course?
You will study six units:
- Introduction to Law and the Legal System in England and Wales
- Practical Legal Skills
- Law of Contract
- Tort Law
- Law of Crime
- Land and Property Law.
You will also study a BTEC Diploma in Business (120 credits which is equivalent to 2 A Levels). Meaningful Employer Engagement is a mandatory part of the CILEx Level 3 Diploma in Law & Legal Skills qualification. Whilst on placement with an employer you will have the opportunity to observe employers in the sector and undertake a period of work experience.
What options do I have after successfully completing this course?
This qualification offers several progression routes. You could progress to:
- Paralegal Apprenticeship Level 3 (exemptions will apply to some of the CILEx units) or CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice.
- Chartered Legal Executive Apprenticeship Level 6. Chartered Legal Executives specialise in one area of Law and are able to undertake the same level work as a solicitor.
- This course carries UCAS points so you could also progress to degree-level study. If you choose to study for a degree with University Centre Weston, we can prioritise your application. Job/career opportunities:
- Paralegal/Legal Assistant roles.
- An apprenticeship in the legal sector or in any business. There are elements of law in all businesses eg HR, Compliance.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through examinations and coursework. You can achieve a pass, merit or distinction grade.
Five GCSE at grade 4/C and above, including English and maths at grade 5/C. You will be invited for an interview for this course.
