Supporting Teaching and Learning, Certificate (Evening)
This course provides you the opportunity to build upon your skills and knowledge to become a teaching assistant.
At Weston College, you will benefit from being taught by tutors who have previously been teachers or head teachers and have a wealth of experience in the sector.
You’ll develop a variety of skills. On this course you will develop the skills necessary to support teachers with the delivery of sessions, while helping children and young people to develop self-esteem, independence and abilities for learning.
You don’t necessarily need a Level 2 qualification. If you have the equivalent experience in employment, you are welcome to apply for this course, however the Level 2 qualification would be advantageous as it will give you a base of knowledge to build on.
On this course, you will learn about:
- Child and young person development
- Safeguarding and wellbeing
- Health and Safety
- Personal development in health, social care and child settings
- Supporting learning activities
- Positive behaviour
- Professional relationships
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
- Assessment for learning
- Communication and professional relationships
- Schools as organisations.
You will be assessed through assignment work and practical observations. This qualification is recognised by schools looking to employ teaching assistants or learning support assistants, and could lead to progression to a foundation degree with Weston College.
At Weston College our assessors are highly experienced both in schools and at assessing. We believe in the individual learner and we deliver a high quality and supportive learning experience ensuring we react to different needs.
If you require a workforce DBS check there will be a charge of approximately £60. We can support you through the DBS process.
You will need to have completed a Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning or have sufficient employed experience in the relevant sector. You will need to be employed in a school for a minimum of two days per week or arrange a suitable voluntary placement in a school for at least two days per week.
