Performing Arts Centre

Wessex Academy of Performing Arts is an exciting, challenging and imaginative area of the College.

It offers students the opportunity to study from Level 2 right up to Level 6, including Extended Diplomas, Foundation and BA (Hons) Degrees. All courses are delivered by experienced teachers with experience of working in the performing arts industry.

The courses cover a wide range of skills such as acting, movement, dance, physical theatre, singing, directing, theatre history and stage combat.  There are a significant number of productions each year, some presented in our own theatre venues/studios and others in schools and professional theatres in the UK and internationally.

Both the further education and higher education areas of the department work closely together, allowing the potential for students to progress from further into higher education. With state-of-the-art facilities and workshops from visiting actors, directors and choreographers the Wessex Academy of Performing Arts is a vibrant, fun centre of performing excellence.

The College's Performing Arts Centre was recently upgraded, with acclaimed actor Steven Berkoff officially opening a new theatre named after him. The centre now includes six theatre studios, music studios and quiet rooms.

Halo workplace logo

Our workplace champions the right of staff to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black employees’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance. We celebrate Afro-textured hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps. In this workplace, we recognise and celebrate our colleagues’ identities. We are a community built on an ethos of equality and respect where hair texture and style have no bearing on an employee's ability to succeed.
