Sector-Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP)

Weston College can help you recruit staff that have been specifically trained to work in your business.

Our Sector-based work academy programme (SWAPs) are a fantastic opportunity to create a skilled workforce for your organisation.

SWAPs are designed to help jobseekers to improve their job prospects and enhance their CV’s through bespoke training in a particular industry, for example care, construction or security.

Each SWAP lasts up to six weeks, with three key elements:

  • Pre-employment training – bespoke training matched to the needs your business
  • Work experience – identify talented individuals who could be key employers for your organisation, whilst they are developing the skills needed to work in your industry
  • Guaranteed interview - at the end of the programme, either a job interview with an employer in the sector or if an interview cannot be offered, help with the application process.

Each SWAP is flexible and can be adapted to meet the individual needs of your business. There is also no direct cost to employers who offer a SWAP, with candidates remaining on benefits, and the government paying any travel and childcare costs for benefit claimants completing the scheme.

We support employers across the South West, in a number of ways. If SWAPs aren't for you, click below to find out what else we can offer you.

One Message, Different Voices

Take a look at this powerful film made by the staff of Weston College to show how important it is for everyone from different backgrounds to be included. The film shares heartfelt stories and interviews with a diverse group of staff, showing how accepting different identities and backgrounds can make a big difference. Its purpose is to encourage viewers to think about their own biases and work towards making our community more welcoming to all. We invite everyone, regardless of their background, to join us and be a part of our journey toward a more inclusive future.

Halo workplace logo

Our workplace champions the right of staff to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black employees’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance. We celebrate Afro-textured hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps. In this workplace, we recognise and celebrate our colleagues’ identities. We are a community built on an ethos of equality and respect where hair texture and style have no bearing on an employee's ability to succeed.
