Plan your route
Turning up late in your first couple of days will not leave a good impression, and you might miss out on the valuable activities and information that introduces you to the course, your lecturers and your classmates. Aim to get to your classes a few minutes early so that you have some flexibility if things don't go to plan. If you're using public transport for the first time, plan your route in advance to avoid the stress of figuring it out on the day.
Making friends
On your first day you’ll meet lots of new people, and this can sometimes feel a little bit daunting. Just remember - everyone at College is in the same boat! Because you get to choose the subject you're studying, you'll be learning with people who have the same interest as you, so you'll have that in common with them from the start. Don’t be afraid to ask people for help, it's a great way to get conversations started.
Get organised
College is very different to school, and the workload will step up from GCSEs. It is best to start strong, so you do not have to play catch up! Remaining organised and having effective time management is crucial in getting the grades that you need. It is also worthwhile getting to know your tutors early, as these guys will be able to offer help and guidance when needed for assignments.
Find out about activities and opportunities
There will be lots of opportunities to get involved in extra curriculum activities, and this will offer a great chance to make new friends. When you attend our Freshers' Festival you'll get to find out about the many extra-curricular clubs and organisations on offer at Weston College. As well as this, these activities can help make you stand out by enhancing your CV and UCAS application form.
