Essential Digital Skills

This course is designed for people aged over 19 years and is an introduction to Information Technology (IT) and digital skills, for those who are new to IT or have very little experience. The world has become more digital than ever, and this recognised qualification will equip you with the digital skills you need for life, work, or further study. You will learn how to use computers for storing and handling information, creating and editing work, communicating with others and carrying out transactions online safely and responsibly.

Subjects covered:

  • Computer essentials
  • Common functions of a personal computer
  • How to organise and manage folders and files
  • IT security
  • Online essential – using email and the internet

Assessment method

There are three exams to pass at the end of the course and we will help you get to this stage.

Progression opportunities

Successful completion of this course will allow you to progress onto the ICDL Extra.

Entry Requirements

While there are no formal qualifications required, a basic understanding of using different applications is essential. In the first two weeks you will complete initial assessments with your teachers to make sure you are on the right level course.
