Course Overview
At Loxton Campus, our English Literature A Level offers an exciting and stimulating environment to study texts in depth. You’ll examine works across different periods, genres, and contexts, from Shakespearean drama to modern novels and poetry.
Our passionate and experienced teachers will guide you through critical analysis, discussion, and independent study, helping you develop strong interpretive and evaluative skills. Where will I study?
You’ll study at Loxton Campus – a purpose-built facility designed to simulate a university environment and equipped with specialist facilities, learning resources, and collaborative spaces to support study.
How do AS and A Levels work?
You will normally study three or four A Levels over two years. In Year 1, you will work towards an AS qualification, which is completed at the end of the first year and provides a strong foundation before progressing to full A Level study in Year 2.
This structure offers flexibility – you may choose to study four subjects in Year 1 and take three into Year 2. AS Levels also carry UCAS points. You can find more details in our dedicated AS Level FAQs on the College website.
How will I be assessed?
- Examinations (80%): Textual analysis, thematic comparison, and evaluation of unseen literature
- Coursework (20%): Independent research essays or creative projects based on set texts
Entry Requirements
- Five GCSEs at grades 9–4, including maths, and a 5 in English
- Strong reading, writing, and analytical skills
- Enthusiasm for studying literature in depth
