When did you join Weston College? 

I joined Weston College in 2004, having previously worked as a key worker in play provisions and with schools in the UK and abroad. 

Why did you join Weston College? 

I was looking for an opportunity to develop my career in this direction when a perfect job came up at Weston College. This involved expanding my knowledge of working with young people with SEND, primarily behaviour including social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. 

How do you spend your day? 

I work full-time, 5 days a week and my days are quite varied with teaching a range of session and carrying out tutorials which enhance support and progression opportunities academically and professional of my learners, based on assessments and placement feedback. Within allocated admin slots, I can plan engaging sessions linked to curriculum specification. 

How has the College supported your career development? 

My manager has offered a range of professional development opportunities to help me improve my skills and progress in my career. These opportunities included bespoke training programmes, workshops, mentoring, and coaching and in my 19 years here I have achieved two promotions on the back of these training opportunities and supportive management. 

What have you been involved in while working at Weston College? 

I have had the opportunity to be part of wide range of exciting internal and external projects, linked to the development of educational reforms set by the government. Also one of my notable achievements was being recommended by staff and students for a Pearson’s teaching award in 2014, I was a national finalist.
