Heather won the Hair and Beauty Student of the Year, a recognition of her exceptional accomplishments and admirable personal journey. 

Motivated by the desire to acquire new skills and secure employment in a salon, Heather enrolled in the Extension Studies programme at the College. Despite starting as a novice, she immediately showed a passion for hair and beauty and a determination to do well. Her subsequent progression through Levels 1, 2 and 3 is a testament to the dedication she has shown. 

Throughout her time at the College, Heather encountered numerous challenges but faced each obstacle with a positive mindset and an unwavering resolve to succeed. Heather's journey took a significant turn during her Level 2 work experience at a local salon, where her exceptional client care and professionalism gained praise from employers. 

As she progressed to Level 3 Hairdressing, Heather continued to push her boundaries, gradually building confidence and expertise. From initially finding it difficult to work on a single client to eventually managing a whole column, Heather's growth was nothing short of remarkable. Her dedication and skill didn't go unnoticed, with clients specifically requesting her by name and providing glowing feedback on their salon experiences. 

Heather's commitment to her community and her profession is evident. She willingly volunteered her time to assist college staff, worked diligently during work experiences, and exhibited exemplary professional behaviour.  

Heather's journey at Weston College wasn't just about acquiring technical skills; it was also about personal growth and development. Heather feels that the supportive staff at Weston College played a crucial role in her success, as she felt believed in and understood.  

Currently, Heather is pursuing her dreams further at University Centre Weston, where she is studying for a BA (Hons) Degree in Hair, Makeup, and Prosthetics. Her aspirations extend beyond salon work; she hopes to showcase her talents in the realm of makeup and special effects for film and television productions. 

Heather's story is proof of the transformative power of education, determination, and self-belief. Through her unwavering dedication and positive mindset, she has not only achieved academic success but also emerged as a role model for aspiring hair and beauty professionals. As Heather herself puts it, "If you put your mind to it, you can do it. Believe in yourself and enjoy the journey."
