Richard
Richard is the sort of student who you only see once in a blue moon, the sort of student who reminds you of why you got into teaching in the first place. He is academically one of the most gifted people that the teaching staff have ever taught, with the work that he has produced during his time on the Access to Animal Science Diploma being such high quality that it would likely obtain a first degree at university level.
During class, Richard was engaged and shared his passion and enthusiasm for both animals and learning with the group. His knowledge of the animal world was plentiful, and he always had a fun fact up his sleeve for any animal we were discussing and was keen to embrace his life within Weston College and was often seen within college on days that he was not scheduled to have lessons.
To put his achievements into perspective, Rick obtained 45 distinctions and easily gained a place to study a very competitive veterinary nursing degree at Bristol University for September 2022. However, the university recognised just how gifted he truly is and offered him the opportunity to study veterinary science starting 2023 if he was able to obtain some qualifications within chemistry.
Richard also won Access to HE Student of the Year at Celebration of Success 2023.
