Solomon our Engineering Student of the Year 2024 has demonstrated exceptional dedication and remarkable progress in the Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technologies at Weston College. Transitioning seamlessly from Level 2, Solomon's work ethic and technical prowess set him apart, earning him Distinction grades in CNC and CAD.
Solomon consistently displays outstanding timekeeping, attendance, and a willingness to engage with every aspect of the course fully. His journey from Level 2 to Level 3 highlights his commitment to academic excellence, and his leadership by example has made him a role model for his peers.
Solomon's tutor notes his natural talent for CNC and CAD, emphasising how he inspires his tutors and fellow learners. Solomon recalls a project where he independently led the design of an item using CAD software and 3D printing, an example of his accomplishment and pride in his work.
Industry placements played a pivotal role in shaping Solomon’s growth. In his own words, Solomon reflects on his college experience, commending the course's relevance to his future job and the invaluable involvement from employers. “I found all the topics to be very relevant to the job I will be doing, and involvement from employers was very good. I thoroughly enjoyed my GKN immersion weeks.”
Solomon also acknowledges the support of the friendly college staff, who he says were there whenever he needed help.
Now immersed in his apprenticeship with GKN Aerospace, Solomon is carving a promising path into the engineering industry, driven by the determination to complete his apprenticeship successfully. Looking ahead, he plans to contribute to the engineering field, reflecting his enduring commitment to personal and professional growth.
