Traineeships With GKN Aerospace

You can take your first steps into a career in engineering with a Weston College traineeship.

We’ve teamed up with GKN Aerospace in Filton to offer unemployed 16 to 24 year olds a chance to train with one of the UK’s leading engineering companies…

You don’t need prior experience or qualifications. Traineeships are for people who want to learn on-the-job and open the door to new employment and training opportunities.

You’ll gain a high-quality work placement. GKN is one of the country’s top engineering companies and we work closely with them to recruit and provide their apprenticeship training, so we’ll be able to give you an insight into the things engineering companies look for in their employees.

You’ll be better prepared to enter the workplace. This traineeship will teach you the skills and qualities that employers in the engineering sector are looking for. It will help you to get accustomed to the workplace and can lead to an increased chance of securing paid employment.

It’s a great way to get into the engineering industry. If you want to get a job in the engineering industry but don’t meet the entry criteria or have been turned down because you don’t have the necessary experience or qualifications, this traineeship will help by teaching you the skills you’ll need to move onto an apprenticeship, further study, or to apply for jobs.

Traineeships are based around you. They are flexible courses which can be tailored to suit your learning style. You’ll have the opportunity to access support from tutors and specialists, and (if needed) we’ll help you improve your English and maths skills to the standard that most employers look for.

Traineeships are fully funded by the government. This means that you won’t have to pay to become a trainee and, depending on your circumstances, you might be able to access financial support from the College or the Jobcentre.

Plus, as a student of Weston College, you’ll benefit from our fantastic success rates and our expert teaching.

At the end of the traineeship you’ll get the chance to have a mock interview with GKN and get feedback on your performance and progress. If you decide you’d like to continue onto an apprenticeship, we’ll offer you advice and guidance to help get this process started.

Halo workplace logo

Our workplace champions the right of staff to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black employees’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance. We celebrate Afro-textured hair worn in all styles including, but not limited to, afros, locs, twists, braids, cornrows, fades, hair straightened through the application of heat or chemicals, weaves, wigs, headscarves, and wraps. In this workplace, we recognise and celebrate our colleagues’ identities. We are a community built on an ethos of equality and respect where hair texture and style have no bearing on an employee's ability to succeed.
