Ceramics, Award
This Art and Design Ceramics Award is the perfect start for anyone wanting to work in the creative arts, design, media and performance industries. You will be introduced to some of the most exciting areas of the creative sector.
You will learn the basic skills needed to continue with further study. You will be encouraged to explore and use the facilities to help you in your artistic endeavours. You will learn basic ceramic skills such as:
- Pinch Potting
- Coiling
- Loose Slabbing and structured Slabbing
- Decorating with slips methods overlay and underlays with impressions and texturing techniques.
- Basic glazing
And Project skills such as:
- Record their practice via technical and personal reports
- Researching Ceramics and relevant potters
- Keeping and annotating a sketchbook
- Evaluating project outcomes
- Following a project brief & working within a group
- Following Homework projects
Additional Progression Module will be included that covers your next steps and different progression opportunities both academic and professional.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is based on the completion of practical assignments, written and visual records of practice and a written evaluation. You will be required to produce a portfolio of work that demonstrates their practical skills and understanding of the theoretical concepts covered in the course.
Learners will need to buy their own sketchbooks and photograph and print their work so that it is moderation ready.
Entry requirements
As this is a level 1 award, we just ask that you have an interest in this subject and basic knowledge of computers to upload an online sketchbook and access information via a Teams page.

We ask that you please wear clothing you do not mind getting messy and will be comfortable in.
