This Art and Design Ceramics Award is the perfect start for anyone wanting to work in the creative arts, design, media and performance industries. You will be introduced to some of the most exciting areas of the creative sector.

You will learn the basic skills needed to continue with further study. You will be encouraged to explore and use the facilities to help you in your artistic endeavours.

Throughout the course, you will be introduced to a range of techniques, including:

  • Pinch Pots

  • Coiling

  • Loose Slabbing

  • Working with texture, slips and impressions.

  • Glaze technology.

  • Keeping and annotating a sketchbook

At Creative Arts Weston we offer stimulating spaces and studios for you to work in, you will be empowered to experiment, make mistakes, and problem solve, as you explore your individual creativity. You will be guided by, and inspired by, working artists with extensive experience in the creative industries. In our exciting but nurturing environment, you will be fully supported by your lecturers to develop confidence, interpersonal skills, and good working practices, all of which will improve your employability.

You will become part of our Creative Arts Career Excellence Hub, which is endorsed by leading industry partners, who are actively involved throughout your whole training programme. This provides unrivalled access to potential employers and the opportunity to develop your creative network. You will benefit from work experience opportunities, guest lectures and masterclasses from renowned artists, visits to leading galleries and museums, and international trips to inspire your work.

As part of this study programme, you will develop your maths and English skills, attend tutorials and Individual Development (ID). You will also complete an extended industry placement. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.

WHAT DOES THIS COURSE INVOLVE

-Drawing

  • Health and safety procedures

  • Research into work of other artists, designers, and crafts people.

  • Introduction to materials, processes and skills in art, design, and media

  • Introduction to contextual research in art, design, and media

  • Introduction to communication skills in art, design, and media

  • Solving 2D and 3D creative problems

  • Solving time-based creative problems

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through practical projects in studios and workshops, and written assignments

We ask that you have an interest in this subject and basic knowledge of computers is needed as the learner is expected to upload an online sketchbook and access information via a Teams page.

Progression

You could progress on to a related Level 2 programme.
