You will learn about Swedish massage, mechanical massage and electrical facial and body therapy as well as developing your knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology, electrical science and health and safety.
You will also learn about client care and consultation, the history and origins of massage therapies, and promoting and selling your products and services. You will further develop your knowledge and apply the skills you have learned through working in a real-life commercial salon and attending work placements throughout the year. As part of this study programme, you will develop your maths and English skills, attend tutorials and Individual Development (ID).
You will also complete a work placement or extended industry placement. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview. This course is part of our Career Excellence Hubs, which brings you closer to industry than ever before. You will hear from people within the industry, who will equip you with the latest skills, to enhance your future career opportunities.
What does the course involve?
Within the Hair and Beauty route, you will develop knowledge and understanding of the client journey and self-development along with business context and practices, sales and marketing, and safe working practices and regulations.
The core knowledge and understanding delivered within this qualification will support you to transition into employment with the skills, confidence and attributes required to be successful in the hairdressing sector.
After gaining an appreciation of these wider core skills, you then gain a deeper understanding of an occupational specialism of your choice, allowing you to pursue your specific interests.
How will the course be assessed?
You will be assessed through assignment work, case studies, presentations, examinations and final practical examinations.
Are there any additional costs?
You will be required to purchase a kit and a uniform; these will be available from the college shop.
What future study opportunities and careers are there?
After this course, you will have the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours to successfully progress into work or higher-level study. You will receive a nationally recognised certificate showing the overall grade you achieved: pass, merit, distinction, or distinction. The certificate will also give details of what you learned on the course to help you move into skilled employment or a higher apprenticeship. A distinction secures you the same number of UCAS points as three A Levels at A*, and will be recognised by universities, other education providers and employers, meaning your progression options are kept entirely open.
