Healthcare Academy
27 November 2024 16:00 – 17:00
Expand your skills and knowledge of health with our FREE Year 11 Healthcare Academy
Our Healthcare academy is aimed at Year 11s who are interested in learning more about Health and Social Care from our expert team of lecturers. Held over two sessions, the Academy gives learners the chance to get hands-on with practical workshops, while expanding their knowledge of healthcare practices and patient behaviours.
You will get the opportunity to utilise our state-of-the-art simulation suite, modelled after a real-life hospital ward. This will give you the chance to put everything you will learn into practice in the most realistic setting possible.
The sessions will take place on Wednesdays between 16:00 – 17:00
These Healthcare Academy sessions have been expertly designed to support you in your first steps towards a career in healthcare. Whether you’re set on studying one of our Health programmes or still unsure and just want to dip your toe in, the academy is perfect for you! You can register for both workshops or just your preferred session. These are outlined below:
30th October: Working in the Health and Social Care Sector
Exploring careers in the sector, delivered by current students and industry professionals. Learn the skills it takes to be a nurse, midwife and senior care assistant in our state-of-the-art simulation suite. You will practice taking physiological observations, catheterisation and basic care in this interactive session.
27th November: Challenging Behaviour and How we Respond
In this final session, you will complete a ‘day in the life’ of a healthcare professional, working through case studies of patients with a variety of disorders. You will explore what challenging behaviour can look like in the health and social care sector and develop an understanding of how to respond to these situations.
To get the most out of your experience and really get a feel for the Health and Social Care course, it is recommended that you sign up for both sessions!
