Healthcare Support Worker (Apprenticeship Level 2)

Introduction

On completion of this standard, apprentices will demonstrate a range of excellent skills such as preparing individuals for healthcare activities and looking after them before, during and/or after those activities. Other units covered within this qualification include health intervention and physiological measurements, duty of care and safeguarding, communication and information handling, personal and people development, basic life support and infection prevention.

Entry requirements

There are no formal qualifications required to start this apprenticeship but learners will be assessed to ensure they have the ability to complete the English and maths qualification to at least Level 1.

Functional skills

Apprentices will be required to have or achieve a Level 1 English and maths and taken the exams for Level 2 prior to completion of their apprenticeship. If Level 2 has already been achieved, then development of further English and maths skills will continue for the whole of the apprenticeship.

End point assessment

To achieve this apprenticeship standard, the employer, training provider and apprentice will agree when the apprentice is ready and competent to undertake the independent end assessment, which will test their skills knowledge and behaviours required for this role.

Qualifications included in this programme

A Level 2 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support (QCF).

Progression

On completion, apprentices may choose to progress on to a higher level apprenticeships such as the Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker pathway. This would continue to offer them support with their professional career development and progression. With experience and further training, the apprentice could become a Senior Healthcare Assistant.

Duration

This apprenticeship is expected to last on average 12 months.

Funding

This apprenticeship is in funding band 4. Levy paying employers may fund apprentices on this programme from their Apprenticeship Account and non-levy paying SMEs through the co-funded option. There may be a small fee for some SME’s.
