Paul
Workshop Manager
I take huge pride in working for Weston College, a sentiment that is shared by many colleagues. The experience as a whole is rewarding and fulfilling in ways I never experienced in 20+ years whilst in industry. To have a positive influence on young people's lives and then see them progress and flourish into a chosen career is an inspiring thing to witness.
I have many days which leave me full of pride from a technical stance where the knowledge and skills developed by learners reach outstanding levels but without any doubt, my favourite part is being integral to learners developing their behaviours and their character as individuals. To see them grow to a position where they are ready to seize the opportunities the world can offer is an amazing privilege.
Personally, my biggest achievement within this role is the completion of additional qualifications which the college have helped me through including both the Level 3 Certificate and Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, more recently I have completed an A1 Assessors qualification, all of which help me develop as a practitioner. The support the College offers staff in terms of progression and development is second to none and has enabled me to move from Technician to lecturer and now lecturer to manager.
My advice to anyone applying for a role at Weston College, would be to grasp the opportunity with both hands and to be ready for a journey like no other. Yes, it is hard work and yes it challenges you but those should be seen as positives as you will naturally evolve and develop with the role. Inspiring a future generation is an incredible reward in and of itself so as Mark Twain famously said “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life”
