This two-year ScreenSkills accredited course allows you to creatively explore the world of film, television, and the wider media industry. With award-winning, industry-current lecturers, industry-standard technology, and a professional TV Studio, it provides the perfect platform to start your career journey into the industry. You will have the opportunity to develop and enhance your skills in areas such as filmmaking, directing, producing, storytelling, journalism, video editing, scriptwriting, sound design, and multi-camera events.
Throughout your time on the course, you will work directly with external media clients, partake in trips, engage with visiting lecturers, and undertake an extended industry placement. You will also learn how to complete research and pre-production paperwork to the standard expected of the media industry. You will hear from industry experts during Inspire Hour, and you’ll take part in challenges like the 42 Films in 8 Days challenge for the Somerset Business Awards.
Additionally, this programme will enhance your writing and research skills through coursework-based projects, simultaneously strengthening your core abilities in teamwork, independent work, and communication.
You’ll become part of our Creative Arts Career Excellence Hub, which is endorsed by leading industry partners, who are actively involved throughout your whole training programme. This provides unrivalled access to potential employers and the opportunity to develop your creative network. You will benefit from work experience opportunities, guest lectures from industry professionals, and international trips to inspire your work. As part of this study programme, you will develop your maths and English skills, and attend tutorials and Individual Development (ID). You will also complete an extended industry placement. All aspects of your study programme will be discussed at your interview.

- Exciting industry trips including Los Angeles, Paris, New York, and Bristol. These are industry-specific trips to include studio tours to Universal, Harry Potter Studios, Virgin Radio and Bauer Media, Disneyworld and Game of Thrones tour.
ASSESSMENT METHOD
Your assessments will be entirely coursework based, so is perfect if you perform better when developing and testing your creativity practically and in written assignments. A variety of methods will be used which could include blogs, presentations and audio and video projects. The assessments and programme will incorporate core skills in teamwork and communication, as well as independent working.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
You can progress to BA (Hons) Film and Media Arts Production at University Centre Weston or other media related degrees at a different university.
This programme could also allow you to go straight into a career in media production using the experience from the specialist placement. Example career pathways include broadcaster, film or TV director, editor or producer, journalist, and many more. Our Alumni have gone on to work at global media companies such as BBC, Sky, NBCUniversal, Channel 4, Netflix, Films@59, TourLife and more!
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To secure a place on the course, you will need five GCSEs at grades 9-4, including English and Maths, or a qualifying level 2 qualification (merit). You will also be required to attend an interview, where all aspects of the study programme will be discussed.
