The Fashion and Textiles A Level is designed to develop your artistic skills and open doors to a creative career in the fashion industry. Throughout this programme, you will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of artistic processes and techniques specifically tailored to fashion and textiles, both traditional and experimental. Our comprehensive curriculum covers various areas of fashion and textiles, including fashion design, garment construction, textile printing, surface embellishment, fashion illustration, and creative software.
Taking this course will encourage you to find your own style, while gathering inspiration from other designers and their work. You will also be inspired to be inventive and experiment with techniques and processes you’ve not tried before.
Located at Loxton Campus, our purpose-built facility simulates a fashion design studio environment, preparing you for future higher education studies and a career in the fashion industry. You will have access to subject-specific spaces and equipment, including cutting tables, sewing machines, pattern drafting tools, and textile printing facilities, allowing you to fully explore different techniques and mediums in fashion and textiles.
You'll also attend guest lectures from industry professionals, visit fashion companies and exhibitions, and participate in fashion-related trips, all of which will broaden your horizons and provide valuable insights into the professional fashion world. You'll be taught by experienced teachers who are passionate about fashion and textiles. When you study with us, you will automatically join our Career Excellence Hub and benefit from a range of opportunities designed to enhance your career prospects in the fashion industry. We have established strong partnerships with respected fashion employers, enabling you to gain valuable work experience in June of year one and February of year two. We'll support you in finding suitable placements or provide a week of experiences within the College.
In the first year of your course, you'll have the opportunity to follow a pathway that aligns with your career aspirations in the fashion industry. Choose from options such as creative, or media, which will provide you with additional skills and experiences to enhance your career prospects.

WHAT DOES THIS COURSE INVOLVE
This subject will offer an exciting opportunity to embrace textile art, textile design, and elements of fashion, looking at the design industry from an artist’s perspective. It will introduce you to the contemporary approach of the industry and encourage you to flourish as a potential textile designer, looking at a variety of techniques.
You will also cover a printing unit, looking at techniques such as shibori and screen printing. You will combine your practical work with theory, research, and presentation skills, enabling you to develop fully as a budding designer or textile artist.

ASSESSMENT METHOD
Component 1 - personal investigation (60%) of qualification/120 marks.
Component 2 - externally set assignment (40%) of qualification/80 marks.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
This programme could lead to degree-level study, such as Weston College’s Art and Design UAL Foundation (pre-degree) or in BA (Hons) Art and Design at University Centre Weston.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English and maths, and grade 5 or above in an art-based subject.
