STUDIED: History, Politics And English Language & Literature A Levels
FORMER SCHOOL: Hans Price Academy
I chose my courses because they offered the best connections to my future academic ambitions – to be either an academic researcher or specialist historian – and I knew that Weston College delivered the highest quality teaching in those subjects.
One of the most enjoyable parts of studying humanities in college is the dialogue that happens in the classroom – we are encouraged to discuss diverse topics and that has really encouraged me to think deeply about the subjects and develop informed opinions.
The library and computer rooms at Weston College were extremely useful when completing homework for my classes as they allowed extensive in-house research, which is relevant to the industry of academic research that I would like to work in.
Via Weston College’s Careers Excellence Hub for the Sixth Form there were many opportunities to interact with potential employers as part of my studies, through work experience programmes and the employer and apprenticeship fairs. I carried out work experience at Hans Price Academy and University College Weston so that I could better understand the role of an academic in secondary and higher education. This exposure to potential employers helped immensely with understanding the opportunities available to me in the future.
I intend to study for an undergraduate degree in History at the University of Oxford, before completing a masters and doctoral degree. Weston College has provided a great deal of support through the university application process, with step-by-step instructional guides to signing up to UCAS and to writing high-quality personal statements.
My courses have been highly rewarding and intellectually engaging – I feel completely prepared for my next steps because of the excellent grounding the College has given me in my subjects, and the support they have provided in preparing me for university.
