STUDIED: Musical Theatre Diploma
FORMER SCHOOL: Gordano School
"I chose to study the Musical Theatre Diploma because I have always had a passion for performing arts. I have been involved in dancing and acting from a young age and recently started taking singing lessons to support my performances. I didn’t feel that A Levels would suit me but the idea of pursuing a full-time course in Musical Theatre was very appealing.
Highlights of the course have included performing alongside the year 2 students as an understudy for their Christmas Pantomime and creating pieces for the Christmas Cabaret, where we were given the freedom to produce and audition our own pieces of theatre.
The support I receive from staff at Weston College has been fantastic. The welfare team, personal tutors, and lecturers are always empathetic, supportive, and encouraging. They are always there to address any concerns or worries, and the lecturers provide academic support while giving me creative freedom and encouraging me to progress further than I ever thought possible.
Being a student on the Musical Theatre course at Weston College means you also have access to the Creative Arts Careers Excellence Hub, giving us exposure to employers via work experience, and the lecturers are always supportive in helping us find placements that suit our interests. Plus, we had the opportunity to work as Scare Fest actors at Puxton and Weston Pier, dressing up as clowns and dolls to create immersive theatre during Halloween. We were also offered photoshoots and singing opportunities at fashion shows. These experiences have been valuable in preparing me for my future career.
I have attended many guest lectures, which I have found informative and inspiring, and we often have local theatre companies visit to present their upcoming projects. We are given an incredible insight into the industry and offered amazing opportunities like trips to the West End and Broadway.
My next step is to apply to drama schools around the UK and my ultimate goal is to reach the West End. I also have a passion for teaching so I may return to performing arts at college but as a lecturer.
Weston College has supported me by pushing my skills and abilities to their highest level, helping me build my confidence and ensuring I’m ready for a career in the performing arts industry.”
