STUDIED: Education & Childcare T-level
FORMER SCHOOL: Worle Community School Academy
“This course has given me a fantastic opportunity to understand how the childcare industry works and how I can be a better practitioner.
The classroom spaces have been perfect for learning about childcare and experiencing practical simulations – and the work experience element of the course has been invaluable in preparing me for a career in early years.
Working with children in real-life settings allowed me to build my confidence and develop my professional skills. I learned about the daily routines and care criteria for children of different ages and with additional needs. The staff I encountered during the placement opportunities were incredibly helpful and provided valuable insights into how the childcare industry works. This experience has greatly contributed to my future career goals and helped me understand the impact I can make as an early years educator.
Also via Weston College’s Careers Excellence Hub for Early Years we had access to great guest lectures too – including nursery managers, behaviour specialists and students who speak English as an additional language. I also benefited from a paediatric first aid course, so I am now a qualified first aider.
The course offered other exciting opportunities such as an unforgettable trip to London which allowed us to explore the city independently and visit the Foundling Museum. We also had the chance to watch a West End production of Mary Poppins, which brought the Disney classic to life on stage. This trip provided me with an insight into how our future roles as early years educators can make a difference in children's lives and shape the attitudes of future adults.
After Weston College, I plan to work in a nursery setting and hope to progress to roles such as room leader or SENDco. My teachers and the placement staff have provided guidance and assistance in setting my career goals – thanks to their support, I feel prepared for my next steps.”
