When did you join Weston College?

I joined Weston College in November 2019. Before joining Weston College, I was studying my PhD in civil/ structural engineering in Cardiff University (Achieved in February 2018). Previously, I used to work as site/ setting out engineer, supervisor & consultant engineer in my home country for about10 years. In addition, I used to work as a lecturer in one of my home country universities for 3 years before coming to the UK.

Why did you join Weston College?

I was looking for an opportunity to start and develop my career in the academic field in UK when a perfect job came up at Weston College. This involve delivering sessions for BETC, T-level and HNC learners in Civil Engineering.

How do you spend your day?

I work full-time, 5 days a week, and my days are quite varied with teaching, running lab sessions and seeing students in tutorial sessions, marking learners’ assignments and do some administration work.

How has the College supported your career development?

My manager has offered a range of professional development opportunities to help me improve my skills and progress in my career. These opportunities included some training programmes in surveying and how to use Leica Total station and GPS, workshops, mentoring, coaching, and teaching training courses for level 5. In addition, there are CPD sessions and COG sessions in for different topics for the whole academic year.

What have you been involved in while working at Weston College?

As I have just completed my third year in Weston College, I do the usual activities that teachers do like marking the assignments, verifying teachers marked assignments for their learners in my department, and preparing and writing new assignments for the learners each year. Also, preparing the lessons plan and skill maps for each group of learners.

What’s the best thing about working at Weston College?

I love the positive work environment the College has, it has a welcoming and supportive culture, and staff members are encouraged to collaborate and share ideas. The best thing about working at Weston College is that equality, diversity and inclusivity is recognised as being important. Also, it is the friendly environment that I found in the department that I worked in.
