Jodie
FE Curriculum Co-ordinator - T Level & 16-18 Education & Early Years
When did you join Weston College?
"I joined Weston College in February 2021, having previously worked nearly 8 years as a Primary School Teacher in schools within North Somerset.’’
Why did you join Weston College?
"Having left teaching in a Primary School, I was open to exploring a range of career pathways when a maternity cover role came up with the Early Years Team at Weston College. I made the decision to apply as it allowed me to use my skill set in a slightly different way and was happy to be offered a role."
How do you spend your day?
"Every day is so different! I go from classroom delivery to meetings with other team members and faculties back to working with learners and engaging with CPD. There is not one day that is the same as the previous or the next and, the variety is part of what I love.”
How has the College supported your career development?
“When I started my role, I was employed to cover a maternity post which subsequently led to a full time, permanent position. Over the first 18 months at Weston College, I was given the opportunity to participate in a range of training courses, including Mental Health First Aid, which was insightful and thought provoking. During the summer of 2022, I spent a week in Exmouth completing my Forest School Leader training which was a passion and interest of mine; this has then allowed us to secure and develop a site to use with our learners alongside their main programmes. Also, in August 2022, I secured a managerial role within my department and this is the job I am now in. as FE Curriculum Co-ordinator for T Level & 16-18 in Education and Early Years I am still given opportunities to develop and progress and have recently completed my middle manager training which has been invaluable in this new role.”
