Why did you join Weston College?
"I was looking for an opportunity to develop my career in the education sector as I knew this is the direction, I wanted my career to progress within. So, when an opportunity came up within the animal team this was the perfect time to transition and start a challenging and exciting new role at Weston College.
How do you spend your day?
"I manage the animal division with the most fantastic team around me. No two days are ever the same and we ensure that the student experience is a great one. Giving learner’s a true insight into the animal industry by having our animal centre at Puxton park. Every learner is given the opportunity to work with a wide variety of animals to gain confidence and this prepares our learners for the world of work.
How has the College supported your career development?
“The college has supported my career progression by allowing me to further develop my skills, knowledge and understanding. With hard work and dedication, this has allowed me to progress to be the Subject Area Manager. Weston college has offered a range of professional development opportunities to help me improve my skills and progress in my career including putting me through my Master’s degree in Education. These opportunities included bespoke training programmes, workshops, mentoring, and coaching and in my thirteen years here I have achieved two promotions on the back of these training opportunities and supportive management.”
What have you been involved in while working at Weston College?
“At Weston College, I had the opportunity to be part of the partnership development with Puxton park. From the centre being planned to developing close working relationships with their staff, It is incredible to see how far we have come. Working closely with our career excellent hubs and building relationships with local employers to give learners the opportunities to have valuable industry placements.”
What’s the best thing about working at Weston College?
“I love the positive work environment the College has, it has a welcoming and supportive culture, and staff members are encouraged to collaborate and share ideas. The best thing about working at Weston College is that equality, diversity and inclusivity is recognised as being important."
