Assisting Teaching, T Level
The Assisting Teaching T Level is a comprehensive and industry-focused programme that equips aspiring early years educators with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to excel in the field. Designed in collaboration with employers to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving sector, this T Level provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in diverse educational settings, preparing you for a rewarding career working with children. Through a combination of classroom learning, practical placements, and real-world projects, you will develop a deep understanding of child development, safeguarding, special educational needs and inclusive practice.
T Levels are designed to provide a technical alternative to A Levels and are developed in collaboration with employers, ensuring that courses meet industry demands and equip students with the precise skills valued by employers in specific sectors. These two-year courses are equivalent to three A Levels, illustrating the depth of learning involved. One of the distinguishing features of T Levels is the minimum 45-day industry placement, allowing students to gain practical experience and develop essential employability skills. With their unique blend of classroom learning and on-the-job experience, T Levels offer students a clear pathway to rewarding careers in their chosen fields.

You will become a member of our Education Career Excellence Hub. Through our extensive network of partnerships with schools and nurseries, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, applying what you've learned in a real-world setting. You will also be offered a range of guest lectures and workshops delivered by industry professionals. Our unrivalled exposure to employers will enable you to bridge the gap between theory and practice, ensuring you are well-prepared to secure your first post, or take the next step in your career.
WHAT DOES THIS COURSE INVOLVE
This study programme will provide you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress into skilled employment or higher-level training or study in the education and childcare sector. You will attend college for the knowledge element of your qualification, and you will develop your workplace skills by participating in 750 hours of work placement in a school or early years setting.
Modules covered are:
- Support the class teacher to enhance children’s education, individually and in groups.
- Plan, provide and review educational opportunities in collaboration with teachers and other adults.
- Safeguard and promote the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
- Recognise, adapt, and respond to individual children’s needs, including those with SEND, to support development and access to the curriculum.
ASSESSMENT METHOD
Assessment is through examinations and an employer-led project.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
This qualification will support learners on to a range of progression routes including employment, higher education, and higher apprenticeships. The T Level study programme is eligible for UCAS points equivalent to three A levels. The degrees that previous learners have progressed into include teacher training, early childhood studies, psychology, or onto the in BA (Hons) Early Years, BA (Hons) Education, Society and Childhood or a BA (Hons) Send and Inclusive Practice at University Centre Weston. Job roles may include employment as an early year’s educator, classroom teaching assistant, special needs assistant, nanny or children rep in holiday destinations.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 (including English and maths), or the Technical Progression Certificate in Education and Early Years (T Level Transition Programme).
