CILEx Professional Qualification
The CILEx Professional Qualification (CPQ) allows incremental progression through different membership grades and eventual qualification as a Chartered Legal Executive, a qualified lawyer. It is a great way for those working in the legal sector to achieve relevant knowledge, skills and ultimately progress in their careers.
If you’re a school leaver, or hold a non-legal university degree, you’ll begin your CPQ journey on the CPQ Foundation stage, which will give you a broad foundational knowledge of law and its practical application. To successfully complete the CPQ Foundation study you’ll study undertake five compulsory modules combining academic legal training and legal practice skills:
- Legal Systems
- The Law of Tort
- Contract Law
- Introduction to Property & Private Client
- Professional and Legal Skills
These modules can be studied as on campus evening classes or as online lessons. These modules can be studied as on campus evening classes or as online lessons. Completion of the CPQ Foundation stage results in qualification as a CILEx Paralegal. As a CILEx Paralegal, you’ll be able to evidence your capabilities to employers and clients and show that you are serious about professional development. You’ll also be a member of a regulated professional body, providing confidence and reassurance to clients and employers alike. Having qualified as a CILEx Paralegal you can pause at this level or continue your CPQ journey at the next stage and eventually qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive Lawyer. Chartered Legal Executives are authorised person under the Legal Services Act 2007 able to undertake almost all the activities of other types of Qualified Lawyer, such as Solicitors. Chartered Legal Executives can then become partners of law firms, become Advocates, qualify also as solicitors and even become Judges.
