Kian
Kian is a shining star in the Hospitality and Catering department, earning the title of Hospitality and Catering Student of the Year. Kian is a dedicated learner and his journey at Weston College has been marked by incredible commitment and a passion for cooking.
Despite facing challenges associated with autism, Kian has overcome barriers with unwavering determination and resilience. Starting from the faculty of Inclusive Practice, Kian swiftly transitioned to studying Level 1 Hospitality, alongside Maths and English.
Throughout the academic year, Kian's culinary creations, often featuring his unique flair for bananas, have consistently impressed peers and tutors alike.
Kian's crowning achievement came during the WorldSkills Catering competition, where he triumphed in the regional heat, surpassing over a hundred competitors. This victory secured his well-deserved spot in the national finals, where his innovative menu, boasting Indian-inspired Fish & Chips followed by banana fritters with cardamom chocolate sauce, earned him a remarkable second place in the UK.
Beyond his culinary skills, Kian's infectious enthusiasm and positivity have endeared him to the College community. From spreading joy through his practical demonstrations to embracing new experiences like travelling to Manchester for the national finals, Kian continually pushes his boundaries and inspires those around him. Talking about Level 1 Hospitality, Kian says, “I would recommend the course because you get to try lots of new food and get ready for the industry.”
Kian's journey continues with newfound confidence, a willingness to learn, and boundless creativity. Under the guidance of dedicated lecturers, he embarks on Level 2 studies, poised to achieve even greater heights in the field of hospitality and catering.
