Harry is our Creative Arts Student of the Year. Harry's story is one of remarkable growth and achievement.
Arriving with an infectious enthusiasm for music, Harry embarked on the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Performance and Production. Initially drawn to songwriting and performing, Harry's horizons expanded with the arrival of a new production lecturer. This pivotal moment ignited his curiosity for studio production and live sound engineering.
Reflecting on his college experience, Harry acknowledges the importance of a nurturing environment, "Every single member of staff I met at the College looked out for me," he notes. "I always knew that my lecturers really cared for me and that they genuinely wanted me to do well."
Driven by a thirst for knowledge, Harry was enthusiastic about independent research, honing his production skills to elevate his music's quality. He immersed himself in the world of live sound engineering; shadowing at gigs and seeking guidance from music technicians. His dedication paid off, as he became an indispensable asset at internal and external events, mastering both organisational and technical skills.
Both in and out of the classroom, Harry seized every opportunity to enrich his learning. From industry placements at prestigious festivals to memorable trips, each experience fuelled his passion for music and sound engineering. Harry's performance at the College’s Summer Festival in his final year stands out as a highlight, “It was a great send-off to my college experience. To play one final time in front of all our lecturers, friends, and family was an amazing experience.”
Currently pursuing a BA in Professional Music: Performance and Production at University Centre Weston, Harry's journey continues to unfold. With aspirations to excel as a sound engineer or musician, he remains grateful for the foundation laid at Weston College, “Without the help of my amazing fellow students and my brilliant lecturers, I would have never been able to achieve as much as I have done. Hopefully, I can come back and inspire future students to push themselves to become the best they can be.”
