NHS SWAP - UHBW
Introducing the innovative DWP - Sector Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) by University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) designed to support you to learn more about NHS jobs and equip you with the skills and knowledge to successfully apply for a new career.
Tailored for both the unemployed and those seeking a change of career, this 11-day course will be delivered mainly online (10 days) which will be focusing on honing specific skills crucial for roles within UHBW. For day 11 you will be invited into UHBW's Education & Research Centre where participants will be able to immerse themselves in the work environment and engage with UHBW staff members.
As part of this experience, participants will all receive a Recruitment Masterclass Session from UHBW on how to submit a successful application via the NHS Portal for jobs that are available across the Trust. Those who submit a good quality application and successfully shortlisted will be invited in for an interview.
UHBW offers a diverse array of roles spanning various hospital departments.
These roles are:
- Health Care Support Workers (Clinical Role)
- Admin and Clerical (Non- Clinical)
- Cleaning & Portering (Non-Clinical)
What will I study?
During this engaging 2-week NHS course, we will delve into a diverse array of topics aimed at equipping you for various roles within the NHS. At the end of week 1 you will choose what pathway you would like to train on, depending on your interests and desired job role.
Week 1- All Learners to complete.
- Award in Health and Care
- Principles and Values – focus on the reasons why people work for the NHS and the specific principles behind the ethos of UHBW.
- Equality and Inclusion
Week 2 – Clinical Roles
- Person Centred Support
- Safeguarding
- Infection Prevention and Control
- Working in a Team
Week 2 – Non-clinical Roles
- Customer Service Skills
- Dealing with Queries and Requests
- Handling Telephone Calls
- Working in Business and Retail (Admin and Retail focus)
- Manual Handling (Portering focus)
- Environmental Awareness (Estates focus)
Week 3- Monday - Visit UHBW's Education & Research Centre
Learners on the Monday will visit UHBW's Education & Research Centre (opposite the BRI) where they will get to meet UHBW staff to learn more about the roles available. In addition, delegates will attend a Recruitment Masterclass session hosted by a member of UHBW's Resourcing Team. The session will look at how to apply and submit a good quality application for jobs at UHBW via their online portal as well as what to expect in an interview. Candidates whose application is subsequently successfully shortlisted for an interview should hear within 2-3 weeks.
Alongside the main qualifications (Level 1 Awards in both Health & Care and Infection Control) you will also achieve a Level 1 Certificate Vocational Studies
Progression Opportunities
On successful completion of the course, including all documents and training completed, you will have the confidence and knowledge to submit a job application for a role within UHBW. After you submit your application, UHBW recruitment team will review and complete their checks, if successful you will then receive your interview.
