Apprentice Project Manager at Institute of Physics Publishing

 The Project Manager Apprentice will work with the Project Management Office team to support and report on projects and programmes, ensuring that up-to-date best practice guidance is made available to those involved in project work. This role will support Project Managers, Analysts and Change Managers and may include: 

  • Helping to develop, maintain and ensure adherence to a change framework covering projects, processes and change management to ensure our approach is optimised, standardised and transparent
  • Coordination of resources (people), equipment, meetings, and information.
  • Organisation and participation in stakeholder meetings and ensuring that project deadlines are met in a timely manner.
  • Production of documentation such as process maps or stakeholder matrices
  • Support communicating the frameworks and team (construction of SharePoint sites, presentations, etc) 

The role has a wide portfolio of work across IOP Publishing and provides hands on experience working with Project Sponsors as well as project team members and stakeholders with varying levels of seniority and experience across the organisation.

The role allows the postholder to experience a range of roles within the Project environment (Project Management, Portfolio Management, Change Management, Analysis). 

The focus of the role is on managing business change and business improvement projects and as such experience in this is a benefit but not essential. While this role requires interaction with the technology and product management organizations, it is not a technical project management role. Rather this position focuses on supporting non-Technology, operational teams realising their outcomes as enabled by Technology teams.

  • Classroom lesson 2 days a year
  • As an apprentice, you will be enrolled in our structured training program through which we will create a bespoke professional development plan that you will have the opportunity to shape. The program is designed to focus on your professional development and covers a breadth of competencies to support your journey to becoming chartered with a recognized industry body e.g. APM
  • In addition to this, we will look to understand and develop your area of interest, such as Sustainability or Social Value, to allow you to develop a specialism, to stay at the forefront of the latest industry trends and establish your point of difference from the rest of the profession.
