MMA Welding Skills, Award
Learn the basics needed to start welding, this course is ideal for anyone who wants to become a welder or try their hand at something new and upskill.
This course is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in welding, enabling them to develop and improve their welding skills. The course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience who wish to improve their welding knowledge and techniques.
You will have the chance to develop skills required for an engineering career in our brand-new state-of-the-art £650k welding facility. Which includes a ‘augmented virtual welding machine’ allowing you to learn basic techniques in your initial training. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who is new to welding to gain industry recognised welding skills:
On this course, students will learn the fundamentals of welding, including health and safety, preparation, equipment setup, and welding techniques using the MMA welding process. The course will run for eight weeks, with four start points available throughout the year.
At the end of the course, students will receive a Level 1 Award in Welding and can then progress to the Level 2 Award in Welding where they will build on their existing welding skills and knowledge to further improve their techniques, which will include positional welding of butts & fillets. Or you can select another welding skill to develop at level 1. This course is designed to be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the individual student, providing a solid foundation in welding and the opportunity to develop and improve their skills.
Subjects/Topics Covered
- MMA (Manual Metal Arc) welding is a process that uses an electrode to join pieces of metal together. The electrode is held in an electrode holder and is manually fed into the joint to create a fusion bond. The process is versatile and can be used on a wide variety of metals and in a range of settings.
- Certificate in Employability Skills. The Certificate in Employability Skills is an add on qualification to your Level 1 Welding Award.
Assessment Method
Each unit will be assessed through a workbook and handouts. The assessments will ensure that you are competent and confident in your chosen welding process.
Practical welding tasks will assess the student's ability to safely set up, operate, and weld using the MMA welding process to produce quality welds.
Written assignments will assess the student's understanding of the theory and principles behind welding, such as the types of metals, welding techniques, welding safety, and welding equipment.
The assessment methods used will be designed to ensure that the student has the knowledge, skills, and understanding required to successfully complete the course and gain the Level 1 Award in Welding. The assessment will also ensure that the student is competent and confident in the selected welding process and can apply their knowledge in real-world situations.
