Art A Level will develop your artistic skills and open doors to a creative career. Throughout this programme, you will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of artistic processes and techniques, both traditional and experimental. Our comprehensive curriculum covers various art forms, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and 3D, graphics, new media, and creative software. You'll have the chance to delve into each of these areas and specialise in the ones that resonate most with your individual talents and interests.
Our Sixth Form is located at Loxton Campus. This purpose-built facility has been designed to simulate a university environment, preparing you for future higher education studies. You will have access to subject-specific spaces and equipment, helping you fully explore different art mediums.
When you study here you will automatically join our Career Excellence Hub and benefit from a range of additional opportunities designed to enhance your career prospects. We have established strong partnerships with respected employers, enabling you to gain valuable work experience in June of year one and February of year two. We'll support you in finding suitable placements or provide a week of experiences within the College that align with your career aims.
In the first year of your course, you'll have the opportunity to follow a pathway that aligns with your career aspirations. Pathways include creative, media, and young enterprise, and will provide you with additional skills and experiences to enhance your career prospects. You'll also attend guest lectures, industry visits, and trips, all of which will broaden your horizons and provide valuable insights into the professional art world. You'll be taught by experienced teachers who are passionate about their subjects. Our engaging classroom environment fosters lively discussions and collaborative learning, allowing you to benefit from the diverse perspectives and talents of your classmates.

** What does this course involve?

Exploring different areas of art, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, 3D, graphics, new media, and creative software.

Visiting local and national galleries to investigate historical and contemporary artists, drawing inspiration from their disciplines and styles to develop your individual responses for your personal project.

Building context in your work and communicating visual language through the application of the formal elements of art and design.

Producing a substantial amount of work outside of sessions and demonstrating critical contextual understanding through written, visual, and other forms.

In your second year, you will complete coursework (60%) and a controlled assignment (40%).
