Courses for learners with Special
Educational Needs and/or Disabilities
SEND Centre for Excellence
Level 1
Extension Studies
The aim of the programme is to support learners with moderate learning difficulties, specific learning difficulties and/ or social emotional and mental health difficulties, to progress into employment, higher level courses and/or independent living.
We will work with learners to help them recognise and value their strengths, while developing a vocational focus in preparation for further education, employment or training.
We help learners to take responsibility for what they do in order to achieve greater independence in adult life, future employment and progression to other courses.
Transferable skills, such as problem solving, resilience, communication and working as part of a team, are also a major part of the Extension Studies programme.
Every learner has a personal tutor who supports and guides them throughout their time on the programme and in achieving their aspirations.
No two timetables are the same.
Bespoke study programmes give learners opportunities to try different vocational areas to find out what they are most interested in and are most suited to, these include:
- Animal care
- Employability
- Catering
- Construction
- Creative design
- Hair and beauty
- Health and social care
- The green team
- Independent cooking
- Motor vehicle
- Music
- Performing arts
- Team building
All learners also study maths and English. Learners have access to staff who are experienced and specialist in working with young people with social, emotional and mental health difficulties, as well as moderate and/or specific learning difficulties.
