This qualification is suitable for post-16 students looking to develop both knowledge and practical skills in the science sector.

This technical qualification will support students onto a range of progression routes including employment, higher education and higher apprenticeships.

The curriculum is designed in collaboration with a wide range of local employers, which will ensure that learners are fully prepared for the demands of working within scientific fields and will develop a network of employers over their two years.

As this is a T Level qualification, students will complete a work placement, with a relevant organisation.

What Does This Course Involve?

Students will study a range of subjects relating to biology, chemistry, biochemistry and physics. Practical activities will support students in relating scientific knowledge and techniques to practical applications in the workplace.

Core Modules include subjects, such as:

  • Classification of Biological molecules

  • Enzyme and protein structure

  • Cell Cycle and Cellular Respiration

  • Pathogens

  • Formulae and Equations

  • Kinetic Changes

  • Analytical Techniques

  • Gas Laws

  • Pressure/fluid/viscosity

Subject Specialist Modules include subjects, such as:

  • Atomic structure

  • Molecular structure and bonding

  • Organic chemistry

  • Oxidation and reduction

  • Enthalpy and Entropy

  • Materials science

  • Metabolic pathways and bioenergetics

  • Genotyping and Phenotyping

  • Ecosystems

  • Electronics

  • Nuclear Physics

  • Scientific Techniques

Assessment Method

Students will sit two written exams, synoptic assignments and an employer led project.

Future Opportunities

Students will be able to progress to a range of degrees and degree apprenticeships in science related fields. With experience gained with employers, you could:

  • become a lab supervisor or lab manager

  • specialise in complex analysis work

  • become a Registered Science Technician

You could also take further training at degree or postgraduate level to become a research scientist.

Entry Requirements

You should have five GCSEs grade 4 or above, including English maths and at least one science.
