When did you join Weston College?
"I joined Weston College in 2020, having previously worked at Noah’s Ark Zoo farm as Deputy Head Keeper
Why did you join Weston College?
I was looking for a challenging and rewarding new role within the Education sector, where I could pass on my skills, knowledge and passion for Animals, to the next generation of Animal Industry professionals.
How do you spend your day?
"I work full-time, 5 days a week and my days are quite varied with teaching, practical sessions with the Animals at Puxton and tutoring a group of learners.”
How has the College supported your career development?
“My manager has always been so supportive, helping me improve my skills and progress in my career. Opportunities offered by the college have included Training days, workshops, mentoring, and coaching and I have also had the opportunity to study for my Level 4 in Education and Training.
What have you been involved in while working at Weston College?
Since starting at Weston College I have helped to develop partnerships between the college and contacts I have through working in the Industry. These include Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, Bow Wow Dog groomers and the charity Wild Welfare. I have become a member of both the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee, and the LGBTQ+ inclusion Group as I feel that it is vital for all learners to be able to participate in their studies at Weston College in a safe and inclusive environment. I have recently become the Staff Wellbeing Champion for our faculty, as part of a new initiative which focuses on the wellbeing of all Weston College staff members.
What’s the best thing about working at Weston College?
“I think the best thing about working at Weston College is the Learners, seeing them develop both their industry and personal skillset over the period of their course is so rewarding. Working in a College that has such a strong focus on inclusivity for its Learners and staff is really important to me.
Getting to know the individual learners and supporting their individual needs is my favourite part of the teaching role.
