When did you join Weston College?

I am a Lead Assessor in the Early Years & Education Faculty. I joined Weston College in 2021, having previously worked at a nursery for a long period of time during my studies and beyond.

Why did you join Weston College?

I was looking for an opportunity to develop my career in this direction after completing my assessor’s award and gaining experience, I knew this was the career path that I wanted to pursue. 

How do you spend your day?

I work full-time, 5 days a week and my days are quite varied with teaching, planning, completing learner reviews, and supporting other staff within my sector in the quality of their teaching and assessment.

How has the College supported your career development?

I am currently completing my Level 4 Teaching Qualification with the College which is supporting me to explore the different elements of my role in more detail including how to use different teaching approaches, using assessment in a variety of ways, and planning for lasting and limitless learning. Other opportunities have included CPD development days, academic conferences, assessor development workshops, and tailored cognition workshops to meets your current developmental targets and interests.

What have you been involved in while working at Weston College?

At Weston College, I have had the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of events and projects to develop my skills further within the education sector with the support of my manager. This has included open evenings, employer collaboration events and celebration evenings. Training is readily available internally and externally at all times of the year and there is always opportunity to develop, progress and express your interests with others.

What’s the best thing about working at Weston College?

I love the positive work environment the College has, it has a welcoming and supportive culture, and staff members are encouraged to collaborate and share ideas. Staff are supported to continuously improve and develop with their roles and are given a wide range of guidance from different teams to be able to succeed. The Quality Team within college offer guidance and advice which is inspiring and motivating so that staff are able to implement different ideas and try new things, using reflective practice skills to think about ways approaches can be tailored and adapted to meet the needs of all learners
