I am 21 years old, currently working in a local Law Firm in my hometown and have been since November 2017. Before working at my firm, I had previously been a lifeguard and worked throughout the summers at a restaurant. Outside of work, my hobbies include Yoga, walking, swimming and spending time with family and friends.
I have an A-Level in Law which I obtained from Richard Huish College when I attended in 2015 – 2017.
I enrolled on the CILEx course as I went to University but did not feel that it was for me and so I returned home, got a Job at Alletsons and now I am doing a job I enjoy whilst learning on the side.
I would recommend the course to anyone who wants to work in Law and particularly to people who don’t want to go to University or would like to earn and learn at the same time. The teachers provide brilliant lessons and if you are unable to attend, there are online resources, so you never fall behind.
I went into the course with everything that I needed to know and that was all down to the booklet I was given at the start as well as the CILEx website which provides all information.
I enjoyed the classes and going to college once a week as it got me into the learning mode and it was extremely helpful as I was able to focus a lot more than what I would have done at home. The support has been amazing, the support staff at CILEx are always on hand to help even if it is the smallest of things.
The course was set up through Weston College that I attended once a week for the lessons. The teachers would provide handouts of the relevant weeks and would go through PowerPoints each lesson. If you were ill, you could access the material and the PowerPoint video for that week online so you never missed a lesson which prevented you from falling behind. We would be sent a timetable for Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer Term of the courses that were running. You have a wide range of choice and I always had a course that I wanted to take available.
My next step is to complete Level 6 of CILEx and become a Chartered Legal Executive Lawyer. I wouldn’t change my decision for the world, I knew Uni was not for me and I have found the best alternative for me to reach my career goal.
My advice to new students is always ask for help if you are confused or do not understand something, do not be afraid to ask, the teachers are there to help you and they wouldn’t want you to struggle. Just enjoy it as well, I cannot believe how quick the course has gone and how many new people I have met.
University isn’t for everyone and it isn’t the only option available after College. I would consider the different options before making a decision. It is a big step to take and don’t feel like you are on your own because there are loads of people in the same boat. Don’t feel like you have to go to University because you feel like you have to, or you are following your friends just because they are going. Everyone is different and learns differently, As I have said previously, I would not change my decision for the world.
