Matthew's decision to pursue further education as an adult learner at Weston College stemmed from a desire to advance his knowledge and broaden his horizons. Reflecting on his motivation, Matthew says, "I wanted to do something more academic and push myself intellectually. Weston College's Access to HE programmes seemed great – a fast alternative to A Levels, tailored to my interests." 

Matthew had a clear goal in mind: to pursue a career in the medical field. His commitment and passion were evident from the onset of the Access to Medical Science course. Matthew was an exceptional student, demonstrating academic excellence and a relentless drive to expand his knowledge. 

Throughout the course, Matthew's inquisitive nature shone brightly in the classroom, where he consistently posed insightful questions, always pushing the boundaries of his knowledge. His dedication to mastering practical skills, especially in chemistry, showcased his determination to excel in his chosen field. Despite facing setbacks in his initial university applications, Matthew's resilience and determination never faltered. He completed the course with flying colours, earning the highest possible grade of 45 distinctions, demonstrating his suitability for a career in medicine. 

Matthew is now studying Medicine at Southampton University, a testament to his unwavering commitment and the foundation laid at Weston College. Reflecting on his experience, Matthew shares, "Weston College provided me with the opportunity to realise my potential and pursue my dream of studying medicine. The supportive environment and tailored curriculum allowed me to excel and open doors I once thought were closed." 

Matthew will return to the College as a guest lecturer, aiming to inspire future cohorts of Access students to pursue their aspirations relentlessly. To those prospective students, Matthew offers resounding encouragement: "There are more options available than you may know. If you're without A Levels but have a clear university path in mind, Weston College is the place to be. It's a challenging yet rewarding journey that equips you with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed."
